Girl Posts Photo Of ‘Unrealistically Small’ H&M Jeans

This photo of a girl trying on a pair of size 16 H&M jeans has gone viral in minutes after posting. The photo currently has 82 k likes, over 10,000 shares and 8.4 k comments. Why? Well, the girl, named Ruth Clemens, wanted to show off how ridiculous and unrealistic the jeans’ size was.

Ruth tried on the jeans in a Leeds shop and she was not happy with the sizing. She stated that even though she normally wears a size 14, these size 16 jeans were impossible to put on.

Initially attracted by their price, Clemens was instantly turned off by the fit. When she saw herself in the mirror, she decided to take a photo and let H&M know about their sizing problems.

“As I’m sure you’re aware, size 16 is the largest size you stock (apart from in your plus size range, which is very limited in store and does not offer the range of styles for the fashion-conscious that are available in smaller sizes)”, she wrote in the post accompanying the photo.

Ruth also informed the brand that she is not overweight and that although she is 5 foot 11, her body is “pretty average shape-wise”. She made it clear that it’s already hard to find clothes that fit because of the height.

“Why are you making jeans that are unrealistically small? Am I too fat for your everyday range? Should I just accept that accessible and affordable high street and on-trend fashion isn’t for people like me?”, she asked H&M.

To make her point, she also mentioned that the top she’s wearing in the photo is also from H&M. Size? M.

The brand responded to Ruth’s viral post: “Hi Ruth, thank you so much for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience in store recently. We always want our customers to have an enjoyable time when shopping in store and to leave feeling confident in themselves. At H&M we make clothing for all our stores around the world, so the sizing can vary depending on the style, cut and fabric. We value all feedback and will take on board the points you and other customers have raised.”
